Cheeko the Clown's Balloon Page

Hi kids and welcome to my balloon page what I'm going to try to do here is show you how to make a balloon sausage dog. For this model you will need a qualatex 260Q modelling balloon (the most common balloon available ask your local dealer). Inflate the balloon almost fully leaving a 2ins uninflated portion at the end and follow the bubble sizes below.

sizing diagram

First twist to make is the nose twist a 4ins bubble whilst holding this bubble at the twist in your right hand. (for left handers reverse these instructions) make a second twist 4ins down the balloon with the thumb and forefinger of your left hand. now slide your left hand down the balloon still gripping the balloon gently, you should find you can fold the balloon at the second twist and jamming the first twist in the crook of you right thumb and forefinger pinch the balloon with the thumb and forefinger of the right hand. Now use the left thumb and forefinger to twist the balloon at this point. Now the tricky part and the secret if there was one to balloon modelling, holding the balloon between both left and right hand thumb and forefingers pull gently apart stretching the twist and twist together, this is known as a lock twist. this is to ensure the balloons don't rub off one another causing friction - the main cause of bursting balloons you should be left with something simiar to the diagram below.

first twist

Once you have reached this stage congratulate yourself you are a balloon modeller all the remaining twists in this model are exactly the same, but Ill talk you through it just in case. Move 3ins down the balloon from your lock twist and twist again as before holding this twist in your right hand twist two 4ins bubbles in the baloon as before and lock twist them together. You now have a dog with ears and front legs guess what you do next ...... exactly twist a 9ins bubble (remember sizes are approx don't use a measuring tape) two 4ins bubble and you should be left with a 1ins or more tail lock twist as before. Now you have ears, front legs and back legs. Reposition the bubbles so that they resemble a dog pulling apart bubbles to avoid friction as you do so and you model should start to look something like below.

second twist

Congratulate yourself you've just learned your first 4 balloon animals, thats right I said 4 by varying the sizes of the bubbles you can create at least 4 animals Dog, Cat, Rabbit and Giraffe, see below for details
